New Farming Method in Bangladesh Produces More Food in Less Space


A report published in the Ocean & Coastal Management Journal, describes how a new method of farming could improve Bangladesh’s economy and food security in the face of climate change. A process of combining rice with fish farming produces more food in the same land-area without negatively impacting the environment. This new process includes the addition of fish like shrimp and prawns to wet paddy fields in order to grow seafood and rice side by side. Bangladesh is one of the most densely populated nations in the world. Annual flooding affects about 18% of the country.
